What about the money stolen from taxpayers Americans to give to people who produce nothing?
Government jobs do things that need done. They dont spend time making paper airplanes and playing around. Firing people wont make disappear the needs the citizens have that the government needs to fulfill. And those needs wont decrease over time - they will increase because we are a technological civilization and everything is moving at a fast pace. Therefore the solution is not to fire people like we live back in the 1800s, but to use this already-educated, onboarded and tested workforce where it needs to be used.
Firing people is a dumb 'money man' invention that originated from the 1980s neoliberal MBA philosophy: Fire people and make the work rest harder to boost the stock price and exec/shareholder bonus.
Wherever it was done, it crippled both those companies, their products and their customers. But that doesn matter for the 'money man' because they get their bonuses regardless.
Before that, the companies used to use their educated, already tested workforce in other projects and needed functions because hiring and onboarding someone and bringing them up to speed is more expensive than just keeping the already experienced workforce you have.
But like said above, in the 80s, the 'money men' came and they decided that it was worth burning everything down right now to maximize their bonuses for the next quarter.
