Totalitarianism? Just starting from now? As if there wasn't totalitarianism before?
That's what the actual left always suffered in the 'democratic' US. Now, what the liberals effected on the left by cooperating with conservatives is coming to haunt those liberals themselves. It was always totalitarianism. Except, it was being effected on 'others' so it was ok. Now that its coming to haunt you, you feel that 'something' is wrong, obviously.
