Societal collapse is different from the superficial change that happens when moving from a technology to another like moving from telegrams to telephones or from black and white tv to color tv. Neither with a particular generation starting to die out.
Societal collapse affects the fundamental social contract of the society and people's relationships at all levels. Warm human relationships being discarded and instead interactions in between humans being loaded onto class, wealth and personal benefit basis, people starting to discard their humanity and instead going all out for themselves at any cost, and in later stages society even starting to eat itself by destroying its fundamental institutions for profit.
This kind of change can happen at the same technology level and without any particular generation dying out, and can totally transform a society within a decade.
People in the picture are migrants who are escaping hunger and backbreaking poverty in their own country, even as a certain small segment in their country lives in unparalleled and previously unseen levels of extravagant luxury.
