Precisely. That is why so many developers like me never build on Google's services anything that can't move away from Google in a flash. People are as loyal to Google as Google is loyal to them. Without mentioning the fact that taking care of one's ecosystem and backwards compatible software, smooth deprecations are just good engineering.

To give an example - Google Apps was great for a new service Im in the process of building. But its too Google-specific and Google is untrustworthy. Solution? Built it in Kubernetes using only Open Source software and tools, so it can be moved elsewhere in a blink.

With cloud, Google is reaping the distrust they saw.

"...it’s not fixable because Google’s culture has never had the right incentive structure in place."

No worries they will eventually rush to fix it when they keep losing customers to other clouds.
