"Most of this energy comes from coal. "

That statement requires references. I dont see us burning coal in Europe to fuel the internet.

I dont assume that search, collaboration tools, social networks are benefits. They are. Even this very discussion is happening because there are these tools.

The level of knowledge that is accessible to modern people today is unimaginable compared to the people of the past. Even that alone is something that goes far beyond 'useful'.

Its amazing that this can even be questioned.

"Globalization"

This sounds like an utterly uninformed statement which far right people make. Unaware that the world economy has always been global and no country's industry even 1000 years before BC could fully function without materials and goods imported from another country. Regular trading across continents was there starting from 10,000 BC.

The largest psychological damage this 'globalization' and 'the tech' seems to have made, seems to have been made to far right conservatives by holding them accountable for civilized discussion standards per the terms of service of the social networks. In which, they were able to talk however they wanted before, harassing, insulting, demeaning and smearing anyone without any consequences. Including spreading utter lies and nonsense.

Hence 'tech' being bad. Which suddenly dropped into the popular discourse just last year after they were told 'that's enough' by those tech companies which they loved so much before, but which now they hate.

Jumping on board such narratives and repeating them just shows that someone is easily swayed instead of being someone who operates from facts and reason.

...

All those strong statements against tech, internet, social networks, and yet here you are, still reading these words instead of logging off and shutting down your Internet.
