Its more like those who are not aware of how PHP runs 70% of all websites on the planet are the odd ones. These people seem to work in more traditional tech companies and circles and therefore they seem to be disconnected from the greater reality of the actual business that runs the Internet. Just check out Upwork etc and see how 'scarce' the PHP developers are. Of course, in a way they are scarce because everyone has specialized - now people dont look for PHP developers but Wordpress developers, Laravel developers and so on.

What it seems is that there is a great disconnect from the actual reality in the segment that works in more traditional tech circles.
