The lords have all the power that they need. They are able to 'send a law back' to the parliament indefinitely. That allows them to block anything they dont like. Like how they sent back some laws 60 times back to the parliament until they were changed to suit their taste before letting it pass.

Upper houses have no business in modern democracies. They are antidemocratic apparatuses. They were first implemented by the American rebellion in order to prevent the popular vote from forcing land redistribution. To protect the large tracts of land - some even entire states - that a rich minority owned.
I don't know how the Brits will get rid of these aristocrats. But they'd better do it fast and do it totally.
