I havent even heard of those after all this time, go figure. They seem to have been launched late, and rather unrelated to the browser's core. And nothing in the browser upsells them to me.
A healthy freemium format works by adding extra features, premium upgrades for advanced users. These need to be added to the existing product/service to enhance it for advanced users, and generally for business cases. These dont seem related. Majority of the userbase dont care about using a VPN, nor do they need it.
Pocket Premium seems totally unrelated to the browser as well. An ad free space to consume stories at your own pace? Huh?
Majority of ads on the net are not so intrusive (at least in mainstream web) and people are not looking here and there to 'consume stories'. Stories just come to them from many sources, they just read them.
So these two initiatives that i didnt even hear of, despite being a frequent user of the browser tells me that Mozilla did not yet get the hang of freemium model. They must find something that enhances the existing browser visibly and understandably, something that can be sold premium, and they must upsell it from the browser inside itself.
