And he succeeded. Versailles became de facto aristocratic center, many nobility lived in Versailles, being busy with pleasantries and hedonism instead of plotting to increase their power, allowing Louis to create the more efficient centralized state in which nobility did not meddle in - which later became a model for modern statecraft.
