All of this is because we handed over the control of our Internet to private, unaccountable for-profit organizations. They are not the state, they have no legal obligation other than the scarce regulations to guarantee anything, they are out there for maximum profit. And yet people expected that things would function on the Internet just like how everything functions on the roads, the transportation network and the rest of the government-provided and guaranteed services. They don't. Private companies that are out for profit can pull the rug from under the people at any point in time. Its amazing how things went well this long even.
